A sad day in PakistanIt wasn't the first time she had been attacked and maybe she needed to have stepped up her security. I have been reading on the BBC website on the 'have your say' and one young lady living in Pakistan is terrified, she says there will be riots and she says people are setting cars and houses on fire and the military will be stepping in. Sounds horrendous
| Quote: | Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been killed in a presumed suicide attack.
News of her death was confirmed by a military spokesman and members of her Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
Ms Bhutto had just addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi when gunfire and an explosion occurred.
At least 15 other people are reported killed in the attack and several more were injured. Ms Bhutto had twice been the country's prime minister. |

Without wanting to seem ultra-cynical, but what did she expect?
Her father and brothers had all been politically active and were killed. Her return was marred by an attempt on her life. So, surely she'd have realised she was not going to remain alive for long as in her own words the people who want her dead are in cahoots with the extremists.
My opinion is that she returned to Pakistan to be a martyr, and to be the impetus that will galvanize a popular movement to remove Musharif from government. The upcoming elections are surely going to rigged, and almost certainly the opposition are to boycott.
I read on another forum someone claiming that British and US troops should intervene. That would be extremely foolish, and what gives us the right to "govern" earth? Besides the fact our troops are overstretched as it is and that it wold be stupid to challenge a country with known nuclear capabilities.
A sad day for Pakistani democracy, but to be fair, it was expected.

^ It was to be expected, it wasn't a matter of how but when No way should we get involved though, and yes they are nuclear and very unstable!

The pictures of the aftermath of the killing look totally horrendous. Cars, Buses, Lorries, Tyres etc. being set on fire.
Seems like the plot was carefully planned as why would a suicide bomber ever want to fire shots before letting the bombs off. The thing i don't understand the most is 'why poke your head out of the sunroof of a car infront of one large crowd where you know someone can attack you from a distance where you may not even see'.
If substantial security wasn't provided at this stage i wonder how it would be at the times of the elections (if there are any held after this).
That country was in a serious state before this but this only makes things even worse...
Sad. Very sad.
Edit: One thing i'd take my hat off to here on is the fact that despite life threats and attempted assassinations in the past she risked her own life in trying to win democracy for her country which has always been unstable.
