British GP will move to Donington

the end of an era!

The British Grand Prix will move from Silverstone to Donington in Derbyshire from 2010 in a 10-year deal.
Silverstone, which had hosted the race since 1987, is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club, who had been in talks to secure a new deal.
"We wanted a world class venue for F1, something teams and fans could be proud of," said F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "Donington's development plans will give us exactly that, a venue to put British motorsport back on the map."
Ecclestone said he was disappointed that the government had not intervened to help Silverstone, which is in Northamptonshire, retain the race.
"I am sorry that we could not have helped Silverstone to raise the money to carry out the circuit improvements and run F1," he said.


I'm not sure about Donington, I think it has to be seriously re-developed before 2010 in particular the current bland circuit.

Still times move on, I remember at one point everyone was up in arms that Brand's Hatch lost the GP permanently to Silverstone.

Its a good centralised position that is easy to get to, with redevelopment it will be a good location for a grand prix, plus it had the added bonus of not being owned by the BRDC and their biased self serving views on modern f1.

See im gutted its going to Donington. why?

Not because i think Silverstone is the "home" of the british Gp more because ive seen the plans and they are going to ruin my favourite track, a new loopo and moving the whole pit complex so red gate is no longer the first corner and the heading to craner curbs? not happy. Keep it at silverstone the track has already lost some of its best corners and been made bland.

For those who want to know what the craner curbs are check these shots out i took when watching the BTCC there few months ago.
