FireFox 3 - A World Record! | Quote: | Firefox 3 Web browser is now out as free download
NEW YORK (AP) — The new version of the Firefox Web browser became available as a free download Tuesday.
The release was delayed as visitors checking for the update overloaded Firefox's Web servers. The site was slow or unreachable for about two hours starting about 12:45 p.m. Eastern time, 15 minutes before the scheduled release time, according to AlertSite, an Internet performance monitoring company. Performance improved later in the day.
Firefox supporters organized launch parties around the world as they tried to set a world record for most software downloads in a 24-hour period.
The category is new, and Guinness World Records must certify it, a process that could take a week or longer.
Firefox comes from Mozilla, an open-source community in which thousands of people, mostly volunteers, collectively develop free products. Firefox is the No. 2 Web browser behind Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer.
Firefox 3 includes enhancements to help users organize their frequently visited Web sites and block access to sites known to distribute viruses and other malicious software.
Users of Yahoo Inc.'s mail service can also use Firefox 3 to send e-mail by clicking a "mailto" link they might come across clicking on a name or a "contact us" link on a Web page. Previously such links could only open a standalone, desktop e-mail program.
Firefox 3 also offers other design and speed improvements.

I already had it!
I have mixed feelings about it so far. It's quicker at rendering pages but isn't as compatible with some technologies (at least the Mac version isn't) like the Ajax stuff they use in hotmail for the advanced features just aren't working. Also if you rely on your Firefox plugins check that they are compatible as a bunch of mine aren't yet.

Oh, I hadn't heard of this at all.
I might give it a try, although Firefox 2 does me just fine.

I use a copy of FF in my Win Xp and the other copy in Ubuntu (Linux) and they both work fine. Unfortunately I never used a Mac ... Also I just checked the hotmail and it works fine ... I've read that some developers had problems with using AJAX technology with previous versions of FF (It worked fine with IE but not with FF) but most of at least big sites use AJAX technology - as a mater of speed - and I haven't had any problem yet.
But FF DOES have problems (like some compatibility problems as you mentioned) like any other software.

That's 13 gigabits per second. No wonder the servers were struggling. |

Just go to the Help section of your FF - Then Select About Mozilla FireFox - It will be a page starting like this:

Firefox rocks. Not sure about the tweaks to version 3 but it still beats IE into a cocked hat.

I wasn't quite sure about FF3 as i had so many problems with the Rc versions before the final releases, so switched over to Opera whilst waiting for the final release of FF,
opera is quite a decent browser but i had to switch back to FF and with the help of a little tweak to make it operate faster, Am Loving FF3
