Gambling

So we may have had this topic before but I was wondering how many of you wager on the games or horse races? It is easier for you lot being legal in the UK and all.

I love to gamble unfortunately since George W. made online gaming illegal I have to resort to a local book. If So what do you wager on if anything? How much do you wager?

I remember in the days before the Premier League I used to do football accumulators and for two weeks running one result let me down out of ten, the first would have won me £900 and the second £700, to say I was pi$$ed was an understatement.

I used to have a flutter on the horses many moons ago not every week but only when I fancied my chances. I have only ever given two horses names to my mates that I thought would win, one was in the 1990(I think!) grand national when Seagram won and the other was around the same time. I was at work one Saturday morning when we started discussing the big race of the day, I said that I fancied a horse called Moonax, ridden by Pat Eddery and loved muddy conditions, it had been raining a few days before and on the day of the race.

So I gave my tip to a select few but never got round to putting the bet on myself for various reasons. As a result I never gave it a second thought until I returned to work on the Monday and one of my mates had Moonax at £2 each way, it won at 66/1!!!!

I could not believe that I didn't put a bet on.

I like a bit of a gamble here and there.

But it wasn’t my fault, I am in my eyes heavily influenced by my father, who likes all sorts of gambling, he does horse racing, casino and sometimes dogs. I go with him to the dogs sometimes, however he mainly does online gambling now, I have gone with him to the horse races as well, so far I’ve been to Windsor and Ascot, but it takes long to get there so it’s something I would not want to do again. My mother doesn’t like him to gamble, and when she sees he placed a bet for me she gets quite angry, rightly so. Lol this isn’t meant to be an example set by a father…But my family is weird like that.

I like horse racing though, I am not old enough to put bets so my dads puts them for me, I never bet a lot, sometimes when you lose every week though its mounts up! Over the months though I have found quite a lot of good winners, Numbersixvalverde in the National couple years ago 11/1 he was a tip though. Also the likes of Sir Percy in the Derby along with Authorized, and Dylan Thomas in the Arc, he had an ok price though. My favourite one was betting against the legendary Kauto Star last month, I bet on Monets Garden and he won I cannot remember his odds though, however I will always remember that day, as it was the first time I bet against my dad and I won.

I won’t consider myself a heavy gambler either, just like 1 or 2 horses on a Saturday and Sunday.

I also like betting on football, however I haven’t done the pools in an eternity!

I do enjoy going to the dogs and usually it is a good laugh and once I hit a run of winners it becomes a lot easier. I do prefer betting on the horses though and I have been to Sandown which was fun and I do bet at the major events-Cheltenham and the Grand National but for some reason I hate flat racing. Its just dull. I usually spend a lot of time studying the Grand National form guide though and it paid off this year when I backed Silver Birch and McKelvey each way. Saying that though I do get annoyed when I lose but I do get a buzz from betting but I only do it on the odd occasion so I am not addicted or anything.

I like a punt on the footy, horses, dogs and I play poker online too.

I used to gamble a lot. My MSN address contains "professionalgambler" in it. I was over £3000 up before I pretty much stopped. I spent all of it on a whole new wardrobe before University.

I gamble mainly on horses and football. I've backed the Grand National winner 4 of the last 5 years. I now play online poker but I'm rubbish and only play in the small tournaments arranged by X11 members

^I've never gambled online, I have had a go on the horses before, usually a round robin or just the Grand National, usually choose a horse for its name and have won a few times!

Yeah that's what my Nan does, she bet on one a few years ago (when Monty's Pass won) and bet on it because it was called Blowing Wind.

I used to have premonitions and "feelings" when I saw a horse's name, I'd just have a feeling it would do well. I haven't bet recently though so not sure if I still have the magical power lol

Some people at school didn't believe me and then told me to make a prediction for the England - Brazil game. I said Owen would score first, England would lead 1-0 at half-time and lose 2-1. Turns out Rivaldo scored dead on half-time and that was all I got wrong

I just bet on Owen to score first and England to lose 2-1 and won about £450 I think.

Ah Blowing Wind my favourite horse. That was my first win as I won £2 when he came home Third in the National.

I don't gamble. The only sport I have decent knowledge of is football and thats such a hard game to predict.
