HolidaysSo, where are people going on their jollies this Summer?
I've just been on mine (although it was amazing) and am in the process of moving house, so go on - make me jealous....

We're not going on holiday at all this year now. Should've been going to Disney Paris in October but that got cancelled!
If you can count going to spend a few days with your sister and then your dad as going on holiday then I am!

I'm not going on a big holiday, getting loads of work done on the garden and I need to be around most of the summer to monitor it.
Plus that is costing an arm and a leg so no spare change for hols.
We might pop away for the odd weekend.

I'm so jealous. Being in the middle of moving house I've not got anything planned for the future at all as the mortgage is going to go up substantially. The only plans I've got are camping in the Dales for the weekend
Even a trip to Skegness would be something (well maybe not!!)

I'm going away in September for a week and a half. We're flying into Bratislava, and staying there for a day, then onto Vienna for a few days, and after that Salzburg and surrounding areas (going to go on a Sound of Music tour, lol!). We're then flying out from Munich, so will be spending a day there.
I haven't really looked into what to do in Munich yet - any suggestions? If I don't come up with a plan, I'll end up in a beer hall for the whole day. lol!

Penny your trip sounds like an awesome time, wasn't someone else on here saying how great Bratislava was? I think the exchange rate makes everything real cheap.

Thats weird...thats almost exactly what I've been doing for the past 2 weeks.... minus the Bratislava bit.
Spent a week near Salzburg, 3 days in and around Munich, 2 days in Vienna and 2 days in Nuremburg, I didn't go on the sound of Music tour, but make sure you see Halstatt Penny. Its only 30 or so km from Salzburg, and weather depending it's amazing. I saw it in the rain, and the sun.

I got back from Ireland today and had a great time! I stayed in Kerry....but I can't actually remember what the part was called i stayed in. All the towns near by begun with a C or a K so I got really confused!
The weather was good except tues where it threw it down all day.
I can remember on here someone was saying to go to Dingle and get a battered mars bar.....which I did! It was soo yummy!!

^^ Ha, I love battered mars bars. On the day trips in Irish college we were queueing out the door of Harrison's for them.
Dingle is class. There's always a buzz around the place. Did you go to Murphy's for ice cream? That was another hotspot for us.
Practically ever town in Kerry starts with a C or a K so that doesn't help much lol. Pity you didn't get better weather, it's been miserable up here for the last few days.

No unfortunetly I didn't go to Murphys to get an icecream *dam* as I love icecream! I saw the shop which looked really nice....but I was feeling a bit full from the battered mars haha.
I'm pretty sure the nearest town to me was called Killarney which is where we went one evening as there was quite a few pubs there. Ah....but we might have been staying closer to Killorglin. (I'm looking at a map of Kerry at the mo to see which places I recognise!) It was one of them!
Ooo and we also went to Inch beach which was a nice beach as the tide was out and it was hugee! (I think this was near to Dingle)

Indeed. Coumeenole Beach is also quite near, it's great for surfing 'cause the waves are excellent. All along that area is where they shot Ryan's Daughter too.

Yeah, I'm planning to go there on a day trip since you mentioned it before. What did you go see in Munich? I haven't really planned anything for there yet.

Well, there are 2 castles you have to see. Linderhoff and Neuschwanstein. Linderhoff is nice on the outside, but is amazing on the inside. The Germans really were lavish. How times have changed . And Neuschwanstein is the opposite, absolutely stunning on the outside, but slightly disappointing on the inside. To be fair, the King who built it died before the interior could be finished, so you can let him off with it. Its also the castle that the Disney logo is based on.
The Münchener Residenz (Munich Residence) is a "museum", fairly well in the centre of the city that, again displays the Germans desire for lavish buildings. Its not just lavish though, I've never been one for history, but in fairness, the history of the place is pretty interesting. Sometimes all the names of the various kings who lived there gets a bit confusing, but that doesn't take anything away from the place as a whole.
All around Munich there are amazing churches. One nearby Neuschwanstein is called the Wieskirche and is also worth a visit. I'm not very religious (not at all) but the architecture of the places is something that anyone can appreciate.
And of course, the various Lakes surrounded by forests with the mountains in the background. These are scenes that you will likely see quite a bit of, and they too are well worth 5-10 minutes of your time each. I'm sure theres more, but that's all that comes to mind at the moment . I'll add more if i remember it...
