McCanns 'in talks' to make Madeline the movie?!

This has to be a joke, right?

I have always felt that the Madeline McCann case was always too media oriented, and in a way, maybe it had to be to highlight her story to the optimum degree, but this is a step too far.  It's too soon for a start, and I really don't think making a movie is going to highlight the case any further.  Perhaps a documentary would be more in line!  I've seen this story in a few newspapers, but I don't know if its true.  If it is, I'm losing sympathy for the McCann's pretty darn quickly!

The reports say that they are doing it for the money they will get for the Madeline fund, but surely there are better ways to do that than cashing in like this?!

Quote:
The McCanns are in negotiations to make a blockbuster film about their experiences over the search for their missing daughter Madeleine, according to reports.

Talks with the world's largest talent and entertainment agency IMG are to take place tomorrow in what could be a multi-million deal, according to the Evening Standard.

Kate and Gerry McCann feel they are in need of extra money amid fears as the £1.2m raised from public donations for the Madeleine Fund will soon run out.

A source close to the McCanns told the paper: "We would only get involved in something done sensitively and considerately."

The couple are also considering a book deal and selling interviews to the media, with all cash going to the fund.

Madeleine, four, vanished from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3.

A source told the paper: “Donations from the public are still coming in but to sustain the fund properly we will need larger amounts. We have had a couple of large companies involved in the film industry approach us about a deal.

“IMG and the production company behind Touching The Void have approached Kate and Gerry.”

^ Oh its too soon, she has only been missing 8 months and could still turn up dead or alive  sad I don't like the sound of this at all!

This is well dodgy.
I suppose the money has to come from somewhere to pay for all these highly payed private detectives and stuff but I still think it's a bit ghoulish and poorly judged.
Lou Cipher

That is sickening. When you read stories like this it does make you believe that her parents could have been involved in her disappearance.

They are a strange couple for sure. I find myself swinging from one opinion to the other about them and whether they had anything to do with it. It's a strange path to take, not sure it's one I'd want to go down so soon.
Mala

It's way too soon to be making a film about this. Fair enough they want to keep their daughters disappearence in the public eye but this is not they way to do it.
Super

This is just so wrong and way to quick. Surely there are other ways to get some money.

The more I read/hear the more I think that they had something to do with it.
Maverick

I'm sorry I cannot believe I am reading this! Surely this has to be wrong. That little girl, wherever she may be, needs to found and this thing sorted out before they even THINK about doing anything like this, in fact it would be better if was never done.

I suppose in about 20 years time if this went unsolved maybe they could do it then but now? It is way too soon.

This may sound harsh but...

I really couldn't care less about this case. It is their own fault their daughter is missing, whether they had something to do with it or not. I think it's despicable that they've played up to the media so much, visiting the Pope etc. They got a round of applause after seeing him, wtf for?!

My sister went missing on holiday for 10 minutes, and I was fing scared, and I'm only her brother, god knows what my parents thought, and I would think any other parents would be worried sick, and not spending half their time on TV. Yes to a press conference to highlight the case but no more than that is needed, they've got Beckham involved a god knows how many more celebrities.

There are many cases such as this, and other things affecting children like child abuse, yet they don't get anywhere near the publicity. I have experience of some of these sort of things, directly or through my friends, and I can't believe the police and media are spending so much time on this particular case. Another point is....it's occured in Portugal, surely it'd be better to focus on a case that occured in the UK so at least we might be able to do something!

I've avoided as much of the coverage of this as possible, mainly because I'm so outraged that the media think this is such a special case, so I don't know all the facts, but what I do know is anyone that leaves their children alone...even for a second, is asking for trouble!

To make a movie out of it is just ridiculous. What I think of the parents is not acceptable for any forum.

Rant over.

Sorry if anyone took offence to that, they really pee me off!
AlexH

That is disgusting if its true. You'd have though that they would have more grace than to make a film about it all. If it is just a plan to keep the story in the media then this is the wrong way to go about it.
jonnysmig

they shouldn't do it.  The movie will be full of speculation and people will start treating it as fact
Diane

^ Their spokesperson has been on the news at lunchtime and its not true, they aren't making a film its all been escalated by the newspapers who approached them about it first. As usual its the newspapers playing dirty to boost their sales  rolleyes

They are thinking of making a documentary about it, much the same as the ones made about Ben Needham.
Flakey Sugar Butt

I could probably go along with a documentary. It's a far more tasteful way of keeping the case in the spotlight, and is likely to be more factual. A film would've just been vulgar and in immense bad taste at this time and probably just full of misleading details.
Diane

^Well a documentary could just jog someones memory who may have the smallest detail and not think it is anything but could be a crucial bit of evidence they need.
cosmicrichie

Did anyone see the film/documentary of those two climbers who got stranded, and one of them left his friend up there because he thought he was dead, and then the other guy got himself out of it despite breaking his leg?

And yeah a documentary is far more tasteful
