P.S. I Love You

Shamefully enough I did give in and watch this film out of sheer curiosity.  rolleyes

I haven't read the book but I heard it was quite different and it didn't get too many good ratings from critics who I felt were a bit harsh. It had a good plot, and an excellent cast of actors but it was a major sobfest. I went with a group of friends (male and female so it wasn't too bad) and every last one of the girls along with all the other women in the cinema were in tears by the end of it. Every few seconds someone else started to cry (very loudly) and then I of course started laughing because it sounded so ridiculous and got some funny looks.

It was a good film though, although Gerard Butler has the worst Irish accent I've ever heard.  tongue I'd give it a 3.5 - 4/5

Anyone else seen it?
Penny

^ I haven't seen it, but I did watch the trailer, and I thought it looked awful!  I wouldn't go to see it in the cinema.  I agree with you about Gerard Butler's accent though - awful!!
Diane

^Gee I need to get out more, I haven't even heard of this. I thought Hugh was wishing everyone early Valentine wishes when I read the thread title  laugh

Oh I have cried in the cinema and its totally embarrassing lol! I will look out for this film though!

Haha, it actually wasn't that terrible, it was a lot better than some of the other hammy romance/comdey films out there like Love Actually and anything with Hugh Grant.

The criers in the cinema were hilarious, one women sitting a few aisles down from me had these really long, drawn out bursts of tears and hyperventilation because she was crying so hard.
Diane

^Ooh I would never cry like that in a cinema. How embarrassing  laugh

^ God almighty.  Maybe it was just because your man's accent was so bad - it drove her to tears!

I've read the book, and I really enjoyed it. I might wait for the film to come out on dvd and then watch it, but I won't be running to the cinema to see it.

Question - What do you get if you turn an average book into a movie? Answer - A really crap movie.

The book was okay,it was simple but a great first novel and i can see why it was a best seller but this movie sucked big time. The opening scene made me want to vomit with its sickly sweet lovey doveyness. Gerard Butlers acting was awful and his accent even worse,it was all over the place. Hilary Swank was also not on top form.

The worse thing was that they left the best bits from the book out which totally changed the characters and made the storyline wishy washy.
Penny

I was actually surprised that Hilary Swank did this one.  I mean, she's an Oscar winner.  She doesn't need to do crap like this!

Well, at least we all know where Celia got her talent for telling stories.

ZING!

I avoided this like the plague. How could Butler go from 300, to.......this. It truly boggles the mind.
