Penpals.Do you have penpals? I used to have loads when I was younger - it was one of my favourite hobbies - I'm not sure if having penpals is still popular (and I guess its not as safe a past-time as it used to be), but when I was younger, having penpals was really popular. Do the younger members of DL still have penpals, or has this kind of died out with the advent of the internet?
The girl I used write to most often was from Manchester, but I also had penpals from Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and other places. I even had one from Finland, and one from Japan at one point. I have no idea what I used to write to them all about, and I don't keep in touch with any of them now. One of my friends was just contacted by a girl who she used to write to years ago - she found her on MySpace!

Penny why must you bring up penpals? Don't you remember my penpal from Texas never responded I was gutted, it ruined all experiences with pen pals. i was the only class member to not get a response.

It was to a girl, the name escapes me. I don't remember the contents but I am guessing it was sports related. Maybe she didn't know what I was on about? Maybe she found me creepy? The layout I remember was pretty basic though like what are your hobbies? brothers, sisters etc.. so why the snub!

I had a French pen pal but I had no idea what she was talking about! Apparently she spoke in a language called French???  It didn't last long.

^ Bry I have a similar experience, at school we were given so many addresses in class to write to. MIne was a girl in Sweden (I still remember her name) Suzanne Hagstrom, she sent me one reply and then I didn't get anymore, maybe I just bored her

I'm sorry this thread is after bringing back so many bad memories for you all! I used to tire of people after getting just one letter from them too. I hope I haven't scarred them for life like you lot have been.

Oh dear god you think Dianes situations funny its even worse with me. At Primary school we got a japanese penpal who wrote once and never bothered. I was gutted.
Secondary school we got a US penpal and shock horror i received one email and thats your lot.
What sort of cruel hearted people were they rejecting me not once but twice boo hoo!!!

^ Oh my it gets worse, we should set up a rejected penpal service, sort of like AA but on the lines of "My name is Diane, I am a rejected schoolgirl penpal"

I met somone on holiday when I was 15. He lived in Wales. We use to write to eachother all the time. He even came down to Hampshire for my 18th birthday. Sadly when we got into our early 20's we stopped writing to eachother. However I have since found him on Facebook.

Just noticed this thread....Erm..I too am a one letter wonder. We had a anglo-american thing going on at school and I wrote to this girl in the states (Oregon if I remember) and she wrote back with a really long letter and a shed loads of photo's and I mean shed loads ...her postage costs must have been HUGE. There was family under the christmas tree, pictures of her pet dog..the works.
I never did write back.

I used to have a French lesbo chav pen pal lol. I got given a French pen pal funnily enough in French last year lol and I added her on msn and she was so weird and spent the whole time calling me an alcoholic! Very strange!! Havent spoken to her in ages!

I hate them both. My ex went on and on at me to get Myspace so I signed up and did nothing, didn't even put up a profile picture  Well...she just asked me to sign up 
Then I joined facebook at the start of uni (but now it's spread to everyone) and I've logged on 4 times since October 2006 I thought it was a more respectable "friends reunited" but then they started adding a load of rubbish to turn it more into Myspace. I've given up completely and wish I'd never signed up, apart from anything I think it has serious privacy issues!

We did a penpal thing in 5th grade, we were doing our penpal thing with kids that were involved in the hurricanes down in lousianne and mississippi
turned out i never got my response so that penpal didn't turn out so well.
