Scolari new Chelsea boss. | Quote: | Chelsea have confirmed Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari as their new manager.
The Brazilian was one of the favourites to succeed Avram Grant in the Stamford Bridge hotseat but the timing of his appointment has come as a huge surprise.
Scolari is currently managing Portugal at Euro 2008 and was not expected to make a decision about his future until after the tournament.
A statement from Stamford Bridge read:
"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to confirm that Luiz Felipe Scolari will be the club's new manager from July 1, 2008.
Felipe has great qualities. He is one of the world's top coaches with a record of success at country and club level, he gets the best out of a talented squad of players and his ambitions and expectations match ours. He was the outstanding choice.
Out of respect for his current role as Head Coach of the Portuguese national team, and to ensure minimum disruption to this work, there will be no further comment from Chelsea FC nor from Felipe about his new role until his employment with us commences." |

Wow, I was not expecting that...
At first I was convinced it would be Hughes, then once he went to City, I thought It would be Ancelotti. I never thought Scolari would do this to himself. Going to Chelsea leaves you two options.
Let Abramovic Interfere, or, Don't let him interfere and get fired a year later. Possibly the worst career move someone could make, he is nearing the end of his managing career though I reckon.

Good manager but I agree with Serbitar. He's got a hell of a job in stopping Abramovich interfering ( Shevchenko and to a lesser extent Ballack ) and he's going to have to deliver the champions league next season or he will be fired.

I was hoping they would get stoned by all the big name managers. The expectations are ridiculous under Roman now, who would want that presurre?
I also found the timing a bit odd, right in the middle of the Euros while he is managing a top side is a little tacky but I expect nothing less from Roman really.

^ I think the timing is really odd too.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to manage Chelsea tbh. Ok, so for the cash, but the way the managers are treated there is ridiculous. I think everyone should have turned it down and just let Roman run riot himself! lol!

^LMAO that would be great. Give Roman an earpiece and let him call the tactics from his luxury suite. Spoiled prat, I hope Scolari gets off to a bad start and he sacks him and everyone refuses to work for him!
As they say though money talks.

Worst. Appointment. Ever.
It goes against every rule really:
-He's never managed in Europe.
-He's not managed domestically for 7 years.
-He is arguementative.
It will end in a train wreck really and I for one will savour every minute of this embarrasingly awful appointment.

Yeah. I just know this one is going to be fun to watch!
- Apparently he's made Kaka his number one target and is willing to pay £60 million for him. Nooooooooooooooo!!!! Get away from him!!! Surely, since he's wife's just given birth to a baby, Kaka won't want to uproot his family now.

HAHA I like Alex's post. I think it is what Roman is all about. he wanted a big name in there. it was clear no matter what Grant did he was never going to be good enough. I think it would serve him right if Scolari's a flop.

I also thought this stood out as very odd. Considering the exact same thing happened during the last World up with the England job, Yet that time Scolari was full of moralistic indignation at talking about it before the World Cup and disrespecting Portugal.
Two frikin years later he does the exact opposite and screws them! lol. He has plummeted in my estimations as a man! Even if he does look like Gene Hackman! That only gets you so far with me!

I'm convinced that Scolari will be a flop. As it has been pointed out already, he's never managed a club team in Europe and he'll find the premier league alot different to anything he's experienced so far. Maybe the promise of being able to sign any player he wants was the lure oh and not forgetting the £15m contract.

^ Yeah it's all about the cash clearly. i would love for everyone to shun Roman but as long as he has his millions with him, he will always get a big name to take the bait.
