The Casualty/Misc Medical Shows ThreadSooooo
To avoid completely cluttering up other topics with random melrosing, this thread should be used for any medical shows and such.
As I was saying in the other thread... anyone else into Casualty? I'm a big fan, it's a Saturday night ritual for me and my sister. We watch it obsessively. We watch Holby too but it's been doing some cringeworthy dream sequences at random points during recent episodes so we still prefer Casualty.
Did anyone watch that other new spin off, the police on - Holby Blue? I tried to watch the first episode but I couldn't sit through the whole thing, I was never that big of a fan of The Bill anyway so it's to be expected.

^See I like The Bill and was all set to watch Holby Blue, but it was on a night I work so never watched it. Cop shows are another favourite of mine so maybe an idea for another thread.
Mav and I watched casualty for years and years, infact I watched it before I ws even married. My sisters are nurses and sometimes we would guess between us what was wrong with the patients, I used to get some right and i am the non medical person lol!
I recently got into Scrubs which whilst being a comedy it does tackle serious issues. JD and Dr Cox rule

Casualty is avoided for the same reasons as The Bill, it has descended into soap-land
The only medical shows ( apart from the Germans autopsy programs ) are House and Scrubs, both totally different but each brilliant in its own way.

^ I keep meaning to check out House, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I like Medical shows, but I've never gotten into Casualty. The ones I've watched include Grey's and ER. I also love All Saints (don't know if that's shown in the UK), and also The Clinic, which is an Irish show.

^ Hmm I don't recall All Saints. i sometimes catch Doctors during the day, I know its not brilliant but I quite like it compared to all the other shite daytime TV has to offer.

All Saints is an Australian show - Whistler from Prison Break was a doctor in it!

^ Oh wow!! Good find - I've been wondering what our Dunc was up to! We must start watching this!!

Feline

He looks quite geeky compared to his Liam Role..but still..More Duncan is a good thing..lol!

I can't get away with Casualty, it is very soapy.
I don't really like Doctor/Nursey shows in general, I like Scrubs but I'm not sure it counts.
I think I might be a bit squeamish, I've never thought I was before but I find myself grimacing at things like Casualty or when they televise plastic surgery. Yuk!
The weird thing is I love zombie films and all that gore! I guess if it seems real I dont like it and Zombie films are comic book pretend.
There was a funny British medical show on Channel 4 about two years ago that lasted one season, that cracked me up but I can't remember it's name. It was on about 11 and was badly filmed on purpose like it was 60's quality film and the boss from the IT Crowd (the newer one) was the head consultant. I thought it was hilarious but yet again the rest of the world didn't.

I meant to mention about Duncan> He's plays Linden Cullen on Holby, joined last week. He wears big thick glasses!
Your right too, there's been a huge cast overhaul over the last two seasons, it's weird when you think that Kelsey, Abs and Tess are the long serving characters on it now that Charlie and Josh are gone. Charlie will be back though, they can never get rid of him.
I like the short haired Maggie. Although I sense a disgusting romance coming up between her and Toby, he's the same age as her daughter!

Diane

^Yeah there does look like a romance between those two is going to happen, that will be uncomfortable viewing. I'm sure I will get to know the characters eventually!

I see ER only has one more season left in it. Whatever people may say about it not being as good (I personally think it's still enjoyable, maybe a bit too much focus on Abby but anyway), I think it will be terribly missed. I mean it was a fantastic drama back in the day. (I've been watching from season 1-5 online lately). I missed the best of it, seens as I was only 3,4,5,6 when it was shown first. It'll be sad to see it go.

Lol! You were only three when it started. Madness! Lol!
I stopped watching it a few years ago, but I kind of regret not sticking with it. I might tune in for the last series to see if any of the original characters come back. I heard George Clooney turned down the offer though. Bad one.

Awww. Well I suppose if they were bringing back Clooney they'd have to bring back Carol Hathaway either. I don't thing viewers could handle them breaking up. All the same, you think Clooney would give them the courtesy, ER launched his career really. Or was it Batman? Carter is coming back definitely anyway, for four episodes I think. If only they could bring back Mark Greene. I still get sad when I think about the episode where he died. Lol. Don't tell anyone.
|
Penny
|
^ Lol! Yeah, that was sad.
It was definitely ER that launch Clooney's career, so I think it was pretty bad of him to say no when they asked him back!

I wonder if they could somehow bring Greene into it as a ghost? I know it would be minging and cringeworthy etc but still. Or maybe they could get him to do a voiceover like they did when Carter left.
