Things are going from bad to worseI'm not a very happy bunny right now. I'm moving house on Saturday, which should be an occasion to celebrate as it's a much nicer place than where I am now. However, the other day I rang Orange - they provide my broadband - and they said that they can't start to switch it over until the phone line had been active for 48 hours. I was like AAAGGGHHHHH!! Then I calmed down and thought, no worries, I'll get the line on and use their dial up service for a while.
So, this morning I rang BT to arrange to have the line connected on Saturday, only to discover that there doesn't seem to be a line into the new place (I never noticed when I went to look round it). If there isn't a line in there, it's going to cost me £125 pounds to get one put in, so I'm hoping like hell that there is one there that's just not been used before.
After five minutes of panicing about this, which involved much swearing, I calmed myself and decided to think positive about it all. They will find a line there and just flick a switch to turn it on, and bob's your uncle, I'll have a phone line and I can use dial up for a few days.
So then I rang Orange - again - to see about dial up as it said on their web site that you can use it to tide you over until the broadband is ready. To my absolute horror, I was told that they no longer did dial up!!! *cue scream of frustration*
So I'm now sat here quietly crying into my laptop at the thought of being without my beloved internet for god knows how long

^Oh how inconvenient, I do think this whole connection fee they charge is extortionate, don't they make enough money? Hope you get something sorted sooner rather than later Mala!

That really sucks Mala, I have noticed that the broadband and Internet service over in your parts is not very reliable or there are not as many options as we have here. Anyways it sucks to be without the Internet, it is like you are missing part of the world! Hope things get sorted for you.

How long do you have to wait exactly? If its just a few days, surely its not that bad? I know someone who once had to wait six weeks to get his internet reconnected after moving house!

Ick, that's not nice at all. I was devastated when I had to wait for reconnection after moving house so I totally feel for you. On the plus side the library is only a minute away from where you'll be.....

It is horrible being without the net. I hope you complained to orange for advertising a service they dont have. Hope you get up and running sooner rather than later.

K, first I have to wait for BT to sort out the phone line. They said that if I haven't heard from them by Wednesday I have to ring them and make an appointment for an engineer to come round and survey the property. Then I'll have to wait for them to come and fit a line. Then I'll have to wait 48 hours after that until Orange will start to process the broadband, and that can take up to 15 days 
All in all, it could be weeks before I get connected again

^ Oh, that is bad. I thought at first you just meant it'd be two days. I've put off changing service providers before since there was up to a months wait to get reconnected! I might have to change mine soon though as we're paying over the odds for our broadband, and could actually get it much cheaper.
