What are you reading right now?I'm always on the lookout for new books!
Right now I'm reading Jodi Picoult's 'Nineteen Minutes' which is about the aftermath of a highschool shooting.
Anyone read her books? They're very good.

I havent read anything since the last Harry Potter book which is soo bad!
My friends are into a book callled "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer which is the first of a trilogy so I'm going to borrow it off one and read it next week. I'd never heard of it until recently but apparently its quite big in America and they're bringing a film out later this year of it. Anyone read or heard of it?

I might try that 19 minutes book then, the high-schools shootings fascinate me for some reason. (not in a good way)

I'm reading a book (well I say that but I haven't picked it up for about a week lol) by Kathy Reichs. It's about the character that the 'Bones' tv series is based on. I've read a couple of her other books about the same character too and they're really good. I tend to only read when I go to bed, which is stupid really because if I'm going through a tired period I flake out as soon as I climb in so don't read any for ages then forget what's happened so far when I next pick it up and have to go back a few pages lol!

^LOL that is when I read to Flakey, it is a good way to wind down and relax before bed. Lately I have been back to my magazines again but I need to grab a good book.

The First Casualty-Ben Elton
Only 40 pages in but it has grabbed my attention. Got to read it for A2 English Literature though so its against my free will.
Also reading, Journeys End-A play by a RC Sheriff I think. Also reading that for A2 English Lit and it has also grabbed my attention early on.

I don't really do much reading except on Sun holidays (which I've not had for 2 years).
I'd like to do it more (as I enjoy it when I do) but can't find the time.
I've been enjoying the Dan Brown books when I was reading

You should check out The Pact - its my favourite of hers along with My Sisters Keeper.
Nineteen minutes is ok so far, but dragging along a bit as there's a lot of technical stuff/court cases etc. (or maybe thats just the bit I'm at).

A few of my friends are obsessed with this book, and the main male character! I thought it was geared towards a younger audience, but the people I know who've read it say that it'll appeal to all ages, and its meant to be very good.

^ I only just noticed this post. I'm also obbessed with the main male character haha....he's amazinggg!
Have you read it?
The fourth one comes out today or this week and I'm about 2/3s through the Eclipse which is the third. Can't wait to read the last one!
Oo and have your heard about one called Midnight Sun (I think!). Its Twilight but told in Edwards point of view......I think that will be really good.

^ Yes, I'm in love with Edward Cullen too. I think everyone falls in love with him. Since my first post, I've read all three books, and I've pre-ordered the new one, Breaking Dawn from Amazon. I can't wait for the movie, and I think Robert Pattinson looks great as Edward.
The first chapter of Midnight Sun is posted on Stephenie Meyer's website.
I have to ask - do you understand why anybody would pick Jacob over Edward? Apparently some people prefer Jacob to Edward. How????

I finally managed to finish that Kathy Reichs book I mentioned a while ago, and I'm now reading 'A Brother's Story' by Richard Peltzer. He's the brother of Dave who wrote the 'Child Called It' series. They make for harrowing reading, given the utterly brutal nature of the abuse at the hands of their mother. I've only just started reading Richards tale, so I don't know a great deal about what she did to him yet, but the way she treated David and the things she did/made him do are just shockingly horrid.

Does Breaking Dawn come out tomorrow?
Yeh I also think Robert Pattinson will be good as Edward as he has a sort of weird vampirish look about him....and I also think he's very good looking!
Oooo I'll go and read that on the website in a minute!
You know what.....I've actually recently deveopled a soft spot for Jacob and a tiny part of me would like it if she did suddenly just dump Edward for him! But I do still loveeeee Edward and I am glad she is with him over Jacob.

Yeah, Breaking Dawn is out tomorrow!!
Rob Pattinson does look like a vampire. hehe! He's also got the best hair in the world!
I don't get the Jacob thing at all. He just annoys me. I'm Team Edward all the way!

Woooo to Team Edward!!
Yay....I can't wait! I'm going away to the Isle of Wight tomorrow and the first thing I do there is finding a book shop. I have 1 chapter left of Eclipse which I'll finish later.
Some people really don't like Robert playing Edward, but I think he'll be awesome and he does great hair!
What do you think of Kristen Stewert playing Bella? I'm not too sure myself...I think she's ok as her.
|
Penny
|
^ Yeah, I think she's ok as her. I haven't really seen her in anything before. I'm not a huge Bella fan, y'know - after she kissed Jacob and all. lol!
I'm not happy with Nikki Reed being cast as Rosalie. She looks nothing like the description in the book. Also, I thought they'd get a really drop dead gorgeous guy to play Carlilse and they didn't!

I feel sorry for Jacob as he loves Bella and it's not really his fault that she's in love with someone else too. But I do still defiently prefer Edward!
I jsut looked at Nikki Reed and she is pretty, but your right and she looks nothing like she's suppose too. Man I hate it when they do that in films.
Breaking Dawn out today.....yayyyyy!

Its a mafia style story about a man whose family once were one of the most revered and feared families in Italy, but over time they lost power and overtaken by rival families. So the remaining son moved over to America to start afresh and get his family to become powerful once again.
10500 words so far and its still at the beginning stages.

I finished yesterday.....and I'm not really sure what to make of it! I'll admit I got pretty bored during the last few chapters and I kinda had to force myself to read it. But overall it was quite good I guess.

My copy of Breaking Dawn just arrived today, so I'm going to start reading it soon. I'll let you know what I think of it! I've heard some really bad reviews of it. Even my friend, who is a Twilight addict, only rated it 2.5 out of 5.

Yeh loads of people are really disapointed with it. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be and lots happened that I wasn't expecting and stuff that I was expecting didn't happen. But I did think it was ok....I'd probably give it a 3/3.5
Let me know what you thought of it!
Oo and after you read it look at this:
It is sooo funny....but you have to read BD first! It's a mick take as if it's written by Edward.

^^ Lmao! That is too funny! I love it!!
Here's my review of BD - from what I posted on my Facebook. I gave it 3.5 out of 5.
I really liked the ending of this, although I will miss these characters so much. I was expecting a battle and some major deaths, but apart from not getting what I wanted, I liked it (and I didn't actually want anyone to die anyway!) I especially liked the last scene between Edward and Bella. It was a bit like old times again. I have to say that Vampire Bella didnt' really work for me - I guess I liked the fact that we could always identify with Bella and her infatuation with Edward, and then once she became a Vampire, that was all taken from us. Now I also understand why she can no longer be the narrator. We don't have anything in common with her anymore. :-/ Stephenie Meyer said in a recent interview, that if she does continue the Twilight series (and there is an opening for it, as the Volturi will be back), then she will have either Nessie or Leah as the narrator.
Overall, I don't think she deserves the backlash she has been getting for this book. I've read a few of the Amazon forums and they are just overboard nasty. Yes, there are a LOT of inconsistencies in the book (don't even get me started on how Bella got pregnant in the first place?!), The Jacob imprinting thing which I think is sick and wrong, Renesmee who's graphic birth scenes must have put a lot of people off ever getting pregnant (lol!), and the impact she had on the characters of Edward & Bella - those two changed a lot in this book. I guess they had to grow up quickly. I barely recognised the character of Bella by the end...
The book totally made me warm to Jacob though, and I never thought that could happen. When he remarked at the beginning of book 2 that he felt like he was in a 'Goth version of a bad sitcom', I had to agree wholeheartedly with him!
That said, I read this book really quickly too, and although it had me really rolling my eyes and some of the ridiculous plot twists, I still enjoyed it. I'd give it 3.5 - its in the same class as New Moon for me.

^ I pretty much agree with you on what you've said and I'm glad you've warmed up to Jacob - I've always liked him!
I was surpirsed in it that Bella become a vampire half way through the book as I thought it would happen at the end, and I was really surprised about the pregnancy too....I can't believe they did it when she was still human! Theres one thing I've learnt....if you're a human: never have sex with a vampire without protection haha! I didn't like how the Edward and Bella did change in the book, but like you said they had to grow up as they had a baby and stuff.
A part of me does want another one with maybe Nessie being the narrator, but I part of me does think it's probbaly best to leave it there as it will be really weird being told by someone else and I'll probably keep forgetting it's not Bella. But I kinda hope there is another one as I'll miss this series!
|
Penny
|
^ I don't think I want another one. For me, the Twilight series was all about the romance between E&B and all that's kind of gone now since they're parents and both Vampires. Its all a bit strange. Also, if Nessie was to be the narrator, we'd have to put up with lots of Jacob over all that imprinting stuff.
I'm looking forward to Forever Dawn, and to the movie though!
